AGM Shotgun Stableford
142 out of 144 slots were taken for today's AGM shotgun Stableford Competition, a near perfect turnout. Some excellent scores came in with my score of 41 not even being the best score in my group due to today's top girl Christine Parkinson excelling with a 43 point masterclass. Don't stress Christine, I'd gladly have my photo taken without any lippy if I'd scored 43! Top dog in the boys went to Rory Jackson(42) who put to bed (for now) the question of best golfer in the Jackson household. My 41 scrapped me home by 2 from Glenn Humphreys in A Grade with Dave Ryan again appearing on the winner's podium (but not the photo gallery) with 38 to get runner up in B Grade. C Grade men was won by Glenn Thornton(38) on countback from Stephen Larsen. In D Grade Barney with 39 sneaked home in front of Graeme Mogridge (38) by 1. B Grade ladies saw Trish Cahill card an excellent 40, including a birdie on the 4th, to push Shirley Flanagan into second with 38. Commiserations go to Ros Savidge who, despite scoring 42, could only manage runners up spot in A Grade. Any other day that is a winning score, but Christine was Bargara's Charley Hull today.
Monthly Medal - October
Our penultimate Monthly Medal of the year saw 125 men and 43 ladies enjoy pretty good conditions with little wind and the greens, albeit a bit slower than we are used to, running smoothly. Sylvia Spaar(69), winning Ladies B grade, posted the best score for the girls, and Peter Cocking, A Grade winner, and Geoffrey Barlow, B Grade winner, sharing the honours for the boys with 66. Ladies A Grade was a 3-way tie with 74, going to Allison Jackson on countback from Katrina Dalzell - who birdied both the 5th and 14th to also scoop 2 approach prizes. Allison obviously had a better day than hubby Rory, who left the Club 10 minutes before his name was pulled out in the Vets Member's draw. Evergreen Rosemarie Picot finished runner up in B Grade one behind Sylvia. Malc Feltham carded a nice 68 to finish 2 behind the A grade winner, and Dave Ryan also hit 68 for B Grade runner up. C Grade was won by Frank Farmer(69) by one from Stephen Larson. D Grade saw Graeme Mogridge(68) win by 2 from Wayne Brown(70). With the flat stick Marg Taylor(29) and Peter Cocking(24) were best putters of the day. Thanks to the now 176 members who have already renewed their membership inside 2 weeks, 131 of those showing their IT skills by renewing using the online form. Stirling work from Sue to provide those constant reminders during the last 2 Tuesdays at the raffles desk. Close to 50% of our members have now rejoined the Vets for next year. We finish today on a slightly disappointing note; we are aware that a Vets member changed the measurement of a previous player's entry on the 14th nearest the pin card last Tuesday. Surely, we are more honest golfers than that - is someone really that desperate to win a ball? If you are, come and see me and I'll give you one. Come on guys, we are a better bunch of oldies than that.
Stableford - 4th October
A total of 179 Vets, 45 ladies and 134 men, had a near perfect golf course to test their skills today. Sadly, most of us crashed and burned, however the superstars of the day were B-Grade winner Kerrie Rixon with a superb 43 points meaning Mark cooks the tea tonight, and for the Men Graham Proctor with 41 winning C Grade by 2 from Robert Allen. Jill Serra(38), B Grade Runner Up, was not even the best player in her house as Adrian claimed D Grade with 39, one point in front of Dave Honeybul - 8 on the 18th was costly Dave! A rare photo finish for runner up in Ladies A Grade saw Allison Jackson edge out Barb Brabon on 6-hole countback after being level for the back 9. A par on 18 gave Allison 2nd spot. Last lady finishing, Anita Kaempf beating them both by 2 points right at the death. Men's A Grade was won by Scott Beyer(37), last man in the Clubhouse, by 1 from Keith Horne. Men's B Grade saw Greg Cahill(38) pip Frank Miller by 1. The best result of the day goes to all the Vets members who made the effort to fill out our new (online) membership form, thank you all, in 2 days we have over 30% of our 2026 membership having renewed. It makes the Committee's job a lot easier. It is not too late for those that have not yet got round to it and only takes less than a minute. Oh, and the answer to the 4th photo at the bottom is the lady sensibly took a penalty drop. I know a few who might have had a hack at that, especially those walking down their last hole with 25 points - and probably snapped their club in the process, ay Adrian!!
September - Monthly Medal
Congratulations to the 10 ladies and 63 men, all golf Tragics, who braved strong winds and driving rain to complete their rounds today. How you managed to complete your round and produce some great scores is a tribute to your dedication. Commiserations to the 5 ladies and 21 men who began their rounds but gave in to the elements, and shame on the dozens of you, including the 2 golfers in our household, who chickened out and spent the day in the dry and warmth. Best score of the day goes to C Grade winner Stuart Finlen with 66, your back must be fully recovered mate, back to your old handicap soon! Other winners were A Grade Rob Whitford (70), B Grade Bob Nicholls (70) on c/b from Michael Anderson, and D Grade Richard Rowe (73) by 2 shots from Scott Sigley. Clint Mathiesen will need to improve on his 12 on the 17th if he wants to be on the Vets Committee next year - sorry Clint, I owe you one. For the ladies, hats off to Chris Algie for her nett 69 winning Ladies A Grade. Bravo to Aunty Pat, who again represented the Committee, with a nett 74 gaining A Grade runners up spot and as a reward I've used a nostalgic 2018 photo. A special mention for the evergreen Rosemarie Picot winning B grade with 73, you are an example to us all Rosemarie. 22nd September - Stableford
Although we are still playing bump and run shots with our putters from on the greens, the rest of the course and weather conditions were perfect. The greens will improve; however, they did not hinder our top golfers today. Top of the Pops for the ladies and easily best player in her house, was Brenda Lipscombe who took out B grade with 39 including 4 3-pointers in a row on 15,16,17 and 18. Brenda sneaked home by 1 point from a fast-finishing Fiona Weeks (38). A grade winner was Maree Walker (37), whose name has been cropping up in the winner's circle on a regular basis since we've been commentating on the results - need another photo Maree, this one is wearing out! In the Men's top score of 42 went to both D grade winner Brett Morris, including 4-point pars on the 3rd and 5th and C Grade winner Keith Atkins, who also parred all the par 3's. Other winners were, in A Grade, Ray Brown, with an impressive 41 points - equating to a well-played 73 off the stick. In B grade Greg Cahill (39) pipped our committee representative this week Mark Rixon (38).

4 Person Ambrose
Who doesn't love a game of 4-person Ambrose? Open those shoulders, forget your handicap and rely on your playing partners. Once those 3 tee shots are done and dusted it's fun, fun, fun. On the other hand, if you've still got a tee shot to use walking to the 17th tee its twitchy bottom time!! 44 Ladies in 11 teams, well to be fair 43 - as one unlucky team of girls only had 3, competed. Aunty Pat represented the Committee as part of the Ladies winning team, with Angie, Jay and Wendy, triumphing by just 0.2 of a shot, from Jo, Allison, Zari and Sallie who managed a $32 winning Eagle on the 15th. 2 of them winning some cash without playing a meaningful shot - good work if you can get it, no wonder they all retired so young. The men's Ambrose was hotly contested with 133 players in 34 teams, with 14 teams recording sub 60 scores. Winners with 55 were Mark Haster, Lou Pace, Ken Whan and Leo De George (who also scooped the Members Draw!!) by a shot from runners up Richard Rowe, Rob Ingold, Ted Clark and Robin Johnson. One team had a lucky mascot which helped them to 3rd place, the Mascot Sasha, probably playing better than Chris and Glenn did. A quick note to our Match Committee - more days like this please when you do next year's fixtures, and don't forget the pin/approach shots - no pressure. 25th August - Stableford
No moaning about the weather today, that excuse just wont pass the pub test. Another good turnout with 140 men and 50 women enjoying the great conditions. Our Ladie's B graders showed the rest of us how it should be done with 4 players reaching the magical 40pts. Top scorer for the girls was Tracey Liddelow(44pts, including a wipe) and for the boys Dennis Bowman(42pts, with no double bogeys). The Serra's had contrasting days with best-golfer-in-the-house Jill(40 pts) nearly doubling Adrian's effort of 21!! Ross Hunter(39 pts), making it 2 podiums in 2 weeks, would have pushed President Shirley for most photos on the website but luckily a couple of our other winners smiled for the camera.
Carmel, with 40 pts, represents our Committee this week. Her 4-point birdie on the 3rd also won her nearest approach for the Ladies. She also parred the 8th to score a very impressive 24 points on the front 9 to win by 1 from Di Collins.

You always feel Des has a good round up his sleeve. Coming home with 3 pointers on 16,17 and 18 gave Des 38 points, 4 points behind Dennis Bowman and beating Gavin Chillingworth on countback. You deserve a beer Des.

August Monthly Medal
There was the odd shower around today and some on and off strong winds but our turnout, as ever, was excellent. 130 men and 35 ladies finished the 18-hole monthly medal Competition and some of our experienced Vets shone through, with Vice President Pat representing the Committee. Top score for the men was Chris Norris, winning C grade with a 67, and for the Ladies A Grader Christine Parkinson came in with a 71 to win A Grade. Allison Jackson must have had a putting lesson to win least putts with 26 and for the Men Ian Whiteley putted like a demon with 25.
Auntie Pat was the top Lady Leftie in the Club with an impressive 72. Pars on 3rd, 7th and 15th shaded runners up spot on c/b from Fran Taylor. The 3 7's in 4 holes might have cost her, finishing 1 behind Christine.
Dave got off to a flyer by parring the first 3 holes and kept his nose in front with an impressive 5 over back 9. He hung on to beat Ian Whiteley by 1 stroke. All that practice must be working Dave.
Wayne took the winners cheque in D Grade with a solid 69, 2 under his handicap. His pars on the 2nd and 10th just got him over the line on countback from Ross, carding matching 47s on both nines.

Mixed 4BBB Aggregate
A novelty event with players not having to worry about their handicaps only if they would have to carry their partners. There was a lot of heavy lifting and plenty of sore shoulders by the end of the day with the ladies doing most of the scoring for their grateful male partners. 34 couples entered this event which is a great turnout. A joint score of 75 points saw Chris and Kerry win by 3. Two 4-point Pars by Kerry on the 1st and 16th holes gave them a comfortable victory on the day.

July Monthly Medal
July's Monthly Medal was played in near perfect conditions and that was echoed with some of the low scores recorded. 40 Ladies and 125 men took to the first tee to count them all and, on true but fast greens, also counting putts. Top score for the Men winning A Grade was George Sellars with an excellent 66 and for the Ladies Jackie Hart carded a fine 70 to win A Grade. Maree won runners up spot on countback from Robyn Edgar and Pat McKewen. Maree carded 4 pars on the 1st, 4th, 10th and 13th and kept those big numbers off her scorecard. Well done Maree.
Great to see our Club Patroness Barb showing she's still up there with the best. A 1 under her handicap 72 including a par on the long first hole gave Barb victory in B Grade by 2 shots.
Not a name you've seen in the victory circle lately. A 69 with birdies on the 4th, 13th and 15th and hitting the flag on the 5th gave Chris runner up spot by 3 shots, also helped by some good lag putting with 26 putts.
Pam's 2nd week in a row in the winners circle, coming in as runner up to Barb after victory 2 weeks ago in B Grade. A nice par on the 3rd helped get Pam home on countback from Jenny Hampson.
Vets Open Day 2026
A rain effected Open Day saw numbers down due to the weather. Early starters faced the worst of the weather with many failing to finish in very wet conditions. 20 ladies started with 16 finishing and the men had 73 starters with 57 finishing. As the day brightened the late starters had the best of it and posted some decent scores. The Vets haven't had the best of luck this year with many events affected by bad weather. Lets hope our luck improves for the rest of the year.
Pars on the 2nd, 10th, 15th and 17th contributed to Leanne's 34 pts, winning her A grade on countback.
Adrian cruised to victory in C grade by 3 points. Pars on the 3rd and a 4 pointer on the 17th sealed the victory.

June Monthly Medal
The June Monthly Medal was played in near perfect conditions showed by the plethora of low scores. A stroke event is always a little more taxing than a straight forward Stableford, plus there is the added pressure of counting putts. With the sun and dry conditions, ensuring the greens were pretty fast, putting can make or break your score. 42 Ladies and 118 Men competed in this month’s medal, the full prize list for winners, the rundown, the pin shots and approaches for both Ladies and Men are in the links below.
