Vets AGM 2026
The Bargara Veteran Golfers Association AGM will be held on Tuesday the 20th of October at approximately 1pm following the completion of the day’s 8AM Shotgun Stableford Event. All documentation relating to the AGM is now available on a dedicated Vets AGM webpage that can be accessed by clicking on the link below. Please make an effort to attend the meeting and take time to read the reports beforehand as they will not be read out at the meeting.
Membership 2026-27
Membership to the Bargara Vets for 2026-27 is a very reasonable $10. Membership fees are due as of the 1st October. To become a member of the Vets you must be 55 of age, be affiliated to a Golf Club and possess a GA handicap. There are 3 methods for completing your membership form which are detailed below. Complete a paper-based form, print off and complete a pdf version, or fill out our new online form. Payment of your Membership fee ($10) can be made in cash at our raffles desk or by bank transfer. Details of our Bank Account is available on each version of the form. We urge all members to try and complete their membership renewal before the end of October. Every member, both new and existing, must complete a Membership form for 2026-27 in order for us to fulfill our obligations regarding the website and ensure our Membership records are acurate and up-to-date.
1. Obtain and complete a paper copy of the Membership form from the Notice board or the Raffles desk on any Tuesday when a Vets Event is being held. Bank details are on this form.
2. Print off, complete and return the Membership form below. Bank details are given on this form. Please return your completed form to e-mail address above.
3. Complete our new online Membership form by clicking on the link below. Bank details are shown when you submit your form.

Monthly Medal Survey Results
Firstly, a big thank you to the 111 Vets Members who took the time to fill out our brief survey regarding Monthly Medals. We did get 112 replies but someone tried to vote twice!! 69 Men and 42 Ladies sent in a survey. The very large response (over 30% of our members) is encouraging because it allows our Committee to connect with members and consider their opinions when certain issues arise. As a result of the great response, we will be using this survey method again on the website when the need arises. As for the results, it is important to note we have separated the statistics by gender as we want men to decide on Men’s Monthly Medal and Ladies to decide on their own Monthly Medal.

Shaun's September Golf Tip
Hitting a fairway wood from the turf can be challenging, especially as swing speed slows with age. A common mistake is trying to "lift" the ball into the air, which often results in topped shots and weak slices. To launch your fairway wood cleanly, focus on brushing the grass rather than scooping the ball. 1. Fairway Wood Set Up Ball Position: Place the ball one to two inches inside your lead heel, slightly farther back than you would for a driver. This helps you strike the ball at the lowest point of your swing arc. Widen Your Stance: Position your feet just wider than shoulder width. A stable base reduces unnecessary movement and helps prevent hitting the ground before the ball. Keep Your Shoulders Level: Unlike a driver setup, avoid excessive spine tilt. Keeping your shoulders nearly level encourages a clean sweep off the turf. Equipment Tip: If a 3-wood (15° loft) is difficult to launch, consider using a 5-wood or 7-wood instead. The extra loft makes them easier to get airborne and can often produce better distance than a poorly struck 3-wood. A lower profile fairway wood head gives you more of a chance to make cleaner contact.

Spring Carnival - Final Results
A prize giving dinner was held at Maryborough Golf Club to conclude this year’s Spring Carnival. Bargara’s top dogs were :
Men’s A Grade Winner – Keith Horne – 240 Stableford pts.
Men’s B Grade 3rd Runner Up – Bill Pitt – 229 Stableford pts.
Ladies A Grade 4th Runner Up – Christine Parkinson – 240 Stableford pts.
Ladies B Grade 3rd Runner Up – Robyn Edgar – 236 Stableford pts.
Vets On Tour (NSW)
Two of our long-standing Vets, Trudie Lawes and Dave Williamson, have been touring the golf courses of New South Wales playing in Vets competitions, with some impressive results. Playing several courses including Shaun's old haunt, South West Rocks - Trudie notched up Runner Up B Grade at Maclean, B Grade winner at Nambucca Heads and 54-hole B Grade winner at South West Rocks. With Trudie being in such good form Dave was sensible enough to partner her in a couple of pairs events where they won an Irish 4 Ball and were 4BBB winners with 47 points at South West Rocks. Hopefully Trudie gave Dave some useful tips and we'll see his name in the winner's circle at their next event. Don't worry Dave, I'm not the best golfer in my house either!!
From Your Committee
Our Committee meeting on the 9th of September began by warmly welcoming Sheryl Matthews on to our Committee as Treasurer, replacing long serving member Brian Durnford. Our 3 days of hosting the Spring Carnival produced a profit of $2405. The Vets have received a letter from the Club requesting to run a parallel competition on Tuesdays alongside our Vet's Day. This was discussed at great length, and a reply is being formulated to be sent to the Club in response to this. Soon, members will be asked to complete a very short survey online regarding potential changes to how our Monthly medal comps are run. When you are informed about this please take 2 minutes to complete this questionnaire. It will enable us to run these competitions as our members would like.
After the AGM, we will be asking ALL members to complete a new Membership form for 2026-27 which will be available online and in paper format. This will ensure we have up to date information of our members and fulfill our legal duties regarding the Vets website and use of photos. The Committee also decided to donate another $5k for concrete pathways, this brings our contributions to the Club to $10k this year. Our AGM is confirmed for the 20th of October, following an 8am shotgun start Stableford, please make every effort to attend. Details regarding the Presentation Evening, including price, meal options and entertainment, will be available shortly. We would also like to thank our members for embracing the new website, we hope it is providing you with useful and up-to-date information about your Vets. Don is leading for number of photos on the website with 5, much to Shirley's disgust!!
2026 Class Of '46
This month the Class of ’46 held their annual get together. Meeting since the inaugural celebration back in 2016, this was a special “80th Year” edition. Most of them are still gracing our golf course on Vets Competition day and two-time winner in the last two weeks, Ross Hunter shows it’s never too late to play some great golf, and I still can’t hit the ball as straight as Leonne does!!
